Patients Bill Of Rights Passed!
When WashingtonCAN asked the question:
"Who do you want making your health care decisions, you and your doctor or your HMO?"
The answer was:
"Get the HMOs out of the business of deciding what health care is best for consumers, and put it back in the hands of doctors and patients."
In 2000, WCA organized and led a coalition effort of over 35 organizations to advocate for passage of this bill in Washington State. Together, with your phone calls, letters, and postcards, we were able to achieve victory.
Governor Gary Locke signed the Patients’ Bill of Rights into law on March 15, 2000. The Patients’ Bill of Rights took effect on July 1, 2001.
