Economic Justice
our systems have given too much power and influence to the wealthy. we need economic justice to bring balance to top-heavy systems.
We organize around economic justice by supporting labor rights, consumer protections, and opposing the agenda of corporate interests and their influence over our democracy. While big business is lobbying and funding corruption, WashingtonCAN is using a large grassroots movement to fight back to raise wages, defend democracy, and promote the working class.
“WEAPONIZING MONEY TO GENERATE CONFLICT AMONG COMMUNITY MEMBERS IS CORPORATIONS’ OLDEST PLAY IN THE BOOK, AND WE’RE NOT FALLING FOR IT. NO MORE POLITICAL GAMES. WE’RE TIRED OF THE LIES AND GREED. IT’S TIME TO FIGHT THE FEE!”
Labor Rights
Raise the wage - Burien
Wages in Burien aren’t keeping pace with nearby cities or with the cost of living -- especially rising housing costs. Right now, a person working a full-time minimum wage job in Burien must spend 60% of their income to rent a 1-bedroom apartment.
When workers earn a living wage, everyone benefits. Families have more income to spend at local businesses and on necessities like childcare and health care. They‘re less likely to miss a rental payment and become homeless. Strong-paying jobs make our communities stronger.
Pro-Union
We stand in support of unions and active efforts to unionize across all areas. Unions are why we have many of the most basic labor rights.
Unions with strong contracts contribute toward strong communities and economic growth. We mobilize our base against the driving force, corporate greed, to side with workers for a prosperous Washington for everyday people, not just the wealthiest at the top.
