Washington needs Impacted Community Voices on the Clemency & Pardons Board.
We need your help. HB 1131, our mass liberation bill, passed both chambers of the legislature and is now waiting on Bob Ferguson’s signature. This bill is about justice. It’s about bringing the voices of community into the clemency process, voices that have been excluded for too long.
HB 1131 would add tribal leaders, victims, and directly impacted people to the Clemency and Pardons Board. It would also equip the board to hear more petitions and require racial equity training, so decisions reflect the reality that our criminal legal system has never been fair to Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. This is how we start to repair harm.
We’ve organized for years to make this moment possible. Now we need to make sure it becomes law. Email Bob Ferguson today and tell him to sign HB 1131 so it becomes law. We’re not asking for symbolic change. We’re demanding a clemency process that actually includes us and works for our people.
