Defend Democracy & Help Us Pass the Workers' Bill of Rights in Tacoma

From raising wages to expanding benefits, we know that when workers stand together, we win, and WashingtonCAN has decades of history fighting for workers' rights and wages.

Over the past several months, our field staff have been out in the community, knocking doors and gathering signatures in Tacoma and Olympia for the Workers’ Bill of Rights. The response was overwhelming. We gathered 7,247 in Tacoma and 9,522 in Olympia, knocking on doors and connecting in across town.

In Olympia, the City Council respected the will of the people and placed the measure directly on the ballot. But in Tacoma, City Council chose a different path. Despite enough valid signatures, they waited three days past the deadline, blocking the initiative from going before voters.

We aren't accepting that. Now, on Tuesday, August 26 at 10:30 AM, our fight continues in Pierce County Superior Court to get the initiative on the Tacoma ballot.

For a court hearing, there won’t be signs or chants, but our presence will speak volumes. A packed courtroom shows that Tacoma’s working-class community is watching, and we won’t let elected officials silence our will.

Join us in taking a stand.
